First and foremost, if you care about the business of sports, you owe it to yourself to check out Darren Rovell's Sports Biz blog on a regular basis. (OK Darrell, where's my check.) Anyways, Darren recently wrote a post entitled Coaches Ban Of Twitter Proves College Sports Isn't About Education. I gotta admit, I agree with Darrell on this one. Yes, a bunch of players have made big mistakes using Twitter. But the benefits of using Twitter far outweigh the negatives. Twitter is one of the best ways, (if not THE best way) for people to network and get to know one another.
Besides, in business, as well as in life, it's not what you know, it's WHO you know... and who knows YOU. They're called student-athletes, not athletes-students, which means the student part's supposed to come first. If anything, the should be teaching athlete-students... I mean, student-athletes, how to use Twitter properly, instead of just banning it. College football coaches that ban Twitter are just proving what we all already knew... Football is what really comes first. Be sure to pay us a visit at Get2TheLeague.com, where our job is to empower football players on-and-off the field.
